Public Transport in Singapore
Singapore is the easiest city to get round. With efficient roads and the Mass Rapid System (MRT) people can travel to one corner of the city to another within an hour. Most other cities of Asia can not boast of such efficient public transportation system. Other islands such as Sentosa, Jurong are accessible by road and MRT. Many other islands are easily accessible by ferryboat service. The pubic transportation networks cover the entire length and breadth of the city. It is also a very safe city where those who visit the city and those who live and work can travel without fear, even late at night. Many cities around the world are not safe for traveling after dark.
It also has many links with the outside world. Singapore is linked to Malaysia by road through the Causeway and the Second Link. In fact you can actually walk across the Causeway without any hassles. Millions of workers and tourist cross over the borders each year. The Changi Airport of Singapore connects it with the rest of the world. It has connections with almost all countries of Asia, Europe, Americas and Africa. It is a modern and efficient airport. Singapore has been an international port harbor for almost 2 centuries and this has seen its profits and riches grow.
Bus network
The bus network is extremely efficient. You do not need to wait for more than a few minutes to get a bus to your destination. As a visitor if you planning to use the public transport system, then its best to get a TransitLink Guide and a TransitLink prepaid card. These cards can be used on the buses as well as the MRT. The bus service is between 6 in the morning to midnight. There are more than 300 buses that cover the entire breadth and length of the country.
More than 2 million rides are taken each day by bus commuters. The main providers of the bus services are the SBS Transit and SMRT Corporation.
Taxi services
It also has a great taxi facility. There are more than 15,000 air conditioned taxis that ply the city. It is hassle free and very reasonable to travel by taxi. Taxi stands are well marked outside major shopping centers and hotels and can be easily distinguished. Extra charges are taken for peak hours and advance booking.
MRT services
The Singapore MRT system is clean, efficient, and punctual and air conditioned. It is one of the fastest ways to get around the city. There are fines imposed for littering, smoking eating and drinking in the trains and at the stations. The MRT operates from 6 in the morning till midnight. The frequency of the MRT is between 3 – 8 minutes.
So you can see, if you are traveling to Singapore for a vacation, for official purpose or for the purpose of relocation to Singapore you will not have any problem with the public transport in this country. The public transport in Singapore is well-connected and you can get to different locations in this country without any problem.
