LinkedIn is a professional network based website and it was launched in 2003. It is estimated that this network holds more than 40 million registered users and around spanning 170 industries. LinkedIn is commercial webpage .

Yahoo Inc previous executive is the chief executive officer of LinkedIn. LinkedIn started reached profitability in March 2006 after 3 years of its launch. The principle of this site is to allow registered users to maintain a list of contact details of people they know well and trust in business. All the people present in users list are called connection. User has the option to send invitation to the present user of LinkedIn or an outsider to become a connection. List of connections can be used in different ways like to find a job and user’s connection can recommend someone and can also share business opportunities that are present in ones contact network. Employers can list job and can search for impending potential candidates. LinkedIn also offers job seekers a place to review the profile of hiring managers and figure out which of their existing contact can introduce them to the managers. Contact network of LinkedIn is built up consisting of their direct connections. Connections of their connection are called second–degree connections and connections of the second degree connection are known as third degree connection.

An interesting feature of LinkedIn is LinkedIn answers which is quite similar to Google answers or Yahoo answers. It is a platform where all users are allowed to question for community to answer. It is free feature and main difference the Google answers or Yahoo answer and LinkedIn answer is that it does not hide the identity and user who asked the question and those who replied are known. Another point that distinguishes them is that questions are more business oriented.

A new amazing feature of LinkedIn is the LinkedIn polls which are still in alpha. Users can start a poll and can also participate in polls. LinkIn is user friendly website and also offers users a platform to search LinkedIn Groups; this feature will allow users to establish a new business relationships by joining alumni, industry or professional and other relevant groups. Gated access approach is there and intends to build trust among the service’s users.

LinkedIn is growing very fast and it recently added an application platform and in 2008 it also launched LinkedIn Direct Ads and LinkedIn mobile versions of the site.
