HDB flats for sale rent
Like each and every country, the public housing in Singapore is maintained by Housing and Development Board more commonly known as HDB. The flats are known as HDB flats. In fact the majority of residential development projects for housing are carried out by them. About eighty-five percent of the Singaporeans reside or stay in the HDB flats. They are extremely affordable and the majority of the occupants are the owners of the flats rather than the tenants. The purchase of the HDB flats can also be financed by Central Provident Fund.
The HDB flats are located in what are known as housing estates. These are usually self contained satellite towns that have all the amenities and the facilities such as schools, supermarkets, leisure centers, sports complexes, hospitals and many more. They can be generally classified into three rooms, four room, and five room and executive flats (the living room is also counted as a single room).
In Singapore, these HDB flats are not considered as housing for the underprivileged as they are considered in other countries. For example in Australia and England, the homes for less privileged are priced relatively cheaper. In fact if we were to compare in terms of the currency and what it could buy, the HDB flats in Singapore are more expensive than some of the other private houses and apartments in other countries. In Singapore those who stay in the HDB flats only very few are below the poverty line.
These are some of the eligibility conditions that must be fulfilled by Singaporeans for them to purchase the new HDB flats
- The buyer must be a Singaporean citizen. His family nucleus must also comprise of at least another permanent resident or citizen of Singapore.
- To purchase a 2-room flat, the buyer's gross monthly household income must not exceed S$2,000.
- To purchase a 3-room flat, the buyer's gross monthly household income must not exceed S$3,000.
- To purchase a 4-room or bigger flat, the buyer's gross monthly household income must not exceed S$8,000.
- If the buyer is buying a flat with his extended family, then his gross monthly household income must not be more than $12,000.
In case these conditions aren’t met, then the person can’t purchase the flats. However 90% of the residents in these flats are the owners of the HDB flats.

The real estate agent has a huge database of the flats that are available and he will be able to find the HDB flats for you.
