HDB For Rent
If you plan on renting a house in Singapore, you have two options; to rent one directly from HDB flats for rent or to find any available rental house from the open market.
If you choose to rent a flat directly from HDB, there are some eligibility standards that you, being the applicant, must meet. First and foremost, you must be a Singaporean citizen, whose total gross income (yours and that of your family members combines) must not surpass 1,500 dollars per month. You also must not own or intend to own any HDB or private property. These standards are found to be very limiting by most people, and this causes most of them to look for HDB flats for rent from the open market.
The easiest and most convenient way to find HDB flats for rent available in the open market is to search the adverts section in any Singaporean local newspaper. There, you will find detailed information on the available flats including the cost, the size, where it is located and any other relevant info. Also, there is a section in the locals where different agents and agencies post adverts on the flats available for rent under their care.
If you want to live in a place with a cool and luxurious atmosphere, the best place to rent a flat from is at the East Coast and its environs. Here, you will find great get away spots and great relaxation sites like the East Coast Park, which has wonderful sandy and sunny beaches.
For those whose main reason for residing in Singapore is business, then examples of suitable places for such include the Orchard, Newton, the Outram park and anywhere around the River Valley. All these areas are surrounded by good places in which business thrives well. However, the disadvantage with these areas is that it is not as easy to find good quality HDB flats for rent, but it is possible to find quality condos, though the prices for such are a bit higher.
Things to Check Out For
It is important to ensure that the flat you want to rent is not located far from the MRT, which is Singapore's railway service provider. It is important to note at this point that the most popular means of public transport in Singapore is the train. Check out for the parking space available in the HDB flat for rent if you have a vehicle. Privacy is also another factor you cannot leave out. This is due to the fact that most HDB flats for rent are constructed in such a way that the different units are all connected to a corridor which is shared.
Therefore, a unit located at the corner of the building would be the most apt, though you would be required to pay more for it. Singaporean weather is tropical, and can sometimes be unbearable. Therefore, it is important that you go for an air conditioned unit. Also, a good building is one which has elevators, especially if the unit you are renting is beyond the second floor.
