Singapore MRT , MRT and LRT services in Singapore
Singapore MRT or Mass Rapid Transit is the fastest transportation system in Singapore and it is considered as the backbone of the nation’s railway system. The Singapore MRT is connected to all the locations in the city. There are about sixty four operating stations with the MRT. You can reach any location in Singapore by means of MRT. It is not only cheap but also a convenient form of public transport. When we speak of MRT, we refer to modern passenger trains with A/C that has several stations in and around the city. The Singapore MRT has three chief lines:
- The North-East line.
- The East-West line.
- The North-South line.
Each and every MRT station in Singapore has a Station Control Room from where you can get a quick guide to use the MRT. It takes about half and hour to reach the Changi airport from the center of the city. You can get a ride every twelve minutes from the Changi airport. It costs around SGD 1.50 to travel to City Hall station from Changi Airport station.
When you are using MRT as your daily transportation, you may think of using an ez-link card. You can use it not only for traveling by MRT but you can also use it when you are traveling by bus. The ez-link card is a stored value card which can be purchased at a TransitLink Ticket Sales Office which can be found in almost all the bus interchanges and MRT stations. You will find that all the MRT stations are either underground or they are above the ground. The only exception to this is Bishan as it is located on the ground level. Majority of the MRT stations which are located underground are hardened and deep enough to resist aerial bomb attacks.
You will find a minimum of four GTMs or General Ticketing Machines in all the MRT stations. In all the stations you will also find that there is plasma and LED that displays announcements and information related to train service. You will also notice that the MRT stations have pay phones as well as restrooms. In case of large or major MRT stations, you will find convenience stores, super market, kiosks, ATM or automatic teller machines and retail stores.
Since there is a MRT station almost in every location, it is very easy for you to travel cross the city. Transportation will never be a problem when you are in Singapore for the Singapore MRT can be of great help. Once you know how to use the Singapore MRT, you can use it to travel to any location in Singapore. This mode of transport or transit is not only cheap but also convenient. Moreover, you can reach your destination faster than other form of transport if you take an MRT. There are some people who actually say that the Singapore MRT is the best form of public transport available in Singapore. You wouldn’t know it until you try it!
